General Meetings, Visits and Cinema

U3A membership offers new challenges, new opportunities and new friends. Why not give it a try!

The Third Age is a time of creativity and fulfillment for older people no longer in full time work.

We usually meet on the 1st Friday of the month at St Oswald's Church Hall at 2.30pm.

The meeting is for all current members and those who want to find out more. Why not come along!

General Visits

Although a number of Study Groups organise visits to places of specialist interest connected with their subject areas, it is hoped that we may be able to run occasional trips that are of general interest.

Three that have recently been suggested are to

  • Foxton locks – a staircase of 10 locks on the Grand Union Canal near Market Harborough Leicestershire on Tuesday 21st September.
    We now have a list of 15 members wishing to visit Foxton Locks. We will be using a 15 seater community bus the cost of which will be approx £10 each. We could have guided tour around the locks at an extra £3 each (this will need to be decided at the Sept meeting). I propose we leave Ashbourne at 9.30 am and arrive back in Ashbourne around 5.30/6 o’clock. Will the members on the list please pay their £10 at the Sept Meeting. For more details contact Anne 345435
  • Bletchley Park, the wartime home of Allied code breaking and the Enigma Machines.
  • Houses of Parliament

Interested in any of the above suggestions? Then sign up at the next General Meeting. No dates or details for the other two until we have seen which have sufficient support to try to take further.

Films at the Cinebowl, Uttoxeter

CHEADLE (Staffs) U3A organise special showings and are happy for members of other local U3As to join them.

Tickets are normally £3.50 each and are purchased immediately beforehand; but can also be obtained in the days immediately prior to the showing by personally calling at the Cinebowl  -  (after 4 pm on weekdays or 10 am at weekends). Members are requested to arrive by 2.00 pm to ensure a prompt start. You are advised to take your U3A membership card, which may be requested to prove eligibility for attendance.

The Cinebowl is located next to the Tesco store and has some dedicated car parking. Parking is also permitted in the adjacent store car parks although it is advisable to avoid the Tesco car park.
